These sculptural objects only hint at a function as candlesticks or vessels and are really just indulgences in a love of the animal form. The Staffordshire dog with wings and the bear morphing into a chimney stack are absurd and magical adaptations of the animal form, tapping into a ceramic tradition going back to Martinwear and beyond.
